Professor of Law and Doherty Chair in Legal Ethics, University of Houston Law Center

Professor Renee Knake will hold the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology from January to August 2019. Her permanent academic home is the University of Houston Law Center, where she holds the endowed Doherty Chair in Legal Ethics.

She previously co-founded the award-winning ReInvent Law Laboratory at Michigan State University, where she was named as an American Bar Association Journal “Legal Rebel” and a member of the Fastcase50. She has been invited to speak about access-to-justice and innovation in Australia, Canada, England, Guatemala, Mexico, United Arab Emirates and the United States.

Her award-winning scholarship (three books and over 20 articles) has been cited in briefs before the US Supreme Court, prestigious law reviews such as the Yale Law Journal, and a range of media including Bloomberg Law, the American Lawyer, the Christian Science Monitor, CNN Money, the Houston Chronicle, National Public Radio, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal.

She is an elected-member of the American Law Institute and previously served as a delegate to the World Economic Form Global Agenda Councils on Justice and Rule of Law. Before her academic career, Professor Knake practiced commercial litigation and local government law. She earned her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
