Roy Kim is Co-Founder and Partner at Baystone Legal, a boutique Australian commercial law firm built around a strong entrepreneurial mindset and a willingness to challenge traditional ways of delivering legal services.
With a background in both law and commerce, Roy established his own firm at just 27, inspired in part by growing up around his father’s entrepreneurial journey in Korea. Today, a significant part of his practice involves advising Korean businesses investing into Australia, as well as Australian clients who prefer to communicate in Korean.
Roy is also a strong advocate for exploring how AI can transform the way smaller and boutique law firms operate. At Baystone Legal, the team has actively tested and adopted AI tools to improve workflows, increase efficiency and enhance the way it serves clients. Roy believes successful adoption requires more than simply selecting the right technology – lawyers themselves need to experiment, remain curious and take ownership of how these tools are embedded into everyday practice.
His approach combines technology with the distinctly human skills that remain fundamental to great legal practice: commercial judgment, stakeholder management, creativity and understanding what clients are really trying to achieve.
